My name’s Darren and I’m Hugo’s Dad (Hugo’s in Year 3) – that’s us in the image below.
You may already be aware of this, but I’ve been chipping away since January at a year-long triathlon challenge to raise money for our School. The target I set myself was to raise £5,000 to fund a new outdoor activity centre (seating, soft play/activity area, cooking area, sandpit, chicken coop) to energise the children between lessons.
To help drum up support, my year-long challenge involves swimming, running and cycling 1km for every hour of the year. That's 8,760km: around 200km of swimming (the equivalent of Baslow to Newcastle, as the crow flies), 1,000km of running (Land's End to John O'Groats) and 7,560km of cycling (Baslow to Goa in India).
To help keep me going along the way, I’ve competed in some cycling sportives (the Midlands Monster [165km], the Peaks Tour Epic [157km] and the Matlock Top 10 [62km]) and a couple of runs (the Sheffield Half Marathon and the Chatsworth 10k); bringing the three disciplines of triathlon together with a half ironman (the Ultimate half) and two full Ironman events (the Outlaw and the JurassicMan). Ironman triathlons involve swimming 3.8km, cycling 180km and running a marathon, all back-to-back.
In total, I’ve now swum, biked and run my way through 7,960km – just 800km to go now. But I’ve only raised £1,600 in total so far, so any additional support would be hugely appreciated and would really motivate me to keep going during the wet and chilly winter weeks to come.
So, please join me in supporting the children and staff of Baslow St. Anne’s by sponsoring my 1kph challenge: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/baslow-school-playground.
