Music

At Baslow St Anne's, we have a real passion for music, providing the children with a broad and balanced education through a wide repertoire of musical genres, history, cultures and traditions.

There are lots of opportunities to listen, play, perform, compose and learn about music here at school which you can find out about below:

Peripatetic Music Lessons

We are fortunate in being able to offer lessons to pupils in brass, woodwind, guitars, violin, electronic drums and keyboard. Tutors are from the Derbyshire Music Partnership (except for drums) and cost around £8 for 20 minutes. Lessons can be individual or shared.

Please note that this is a private arrangement between tutor and parent and if your child will miss a lesson due to sickness or a school trip, it is the responsibility of the parent to contact the tutor otherwise the lesson may be charged.

Sarah Walker also offers clarinet, flute and saxophone tuition and free trial lessons are available on request and instruments can be hired at a very reasonable rate – please contact Sarah sarahwalker792@gmail.com for further information.

Contact numbers for all our tutors can be obtained from the school office.

Wider Opportunities

Year 4 have the fantastic opportunity to learn an instrument. This year they are learning the clarinet every Thursday. When you are able to take the clarinet home, please remember to bring it into school every Thursday and leave at the back of the hall.

Young Voices

Children in KS2 have the opportunity to sing with over 5000 other children at Sheffield Arena, experiencing live music and direction from a conductor, finishing with a concert for a large audience.

Choir

Come and join choir every Friday with Miss Grant and Mrs Clark in the hall. We will learn how to use our voice and the importance of warming up and posture as well as singing a range of songs to sing and perform at concerts, services and out in the community. This term we will be learning:

Songs ready for the Easter service

Musical and film songs for a Summer concert including We Don't Talk About Bruno, A Million Dreams, Any Dream Will Do and many more!

Recorder Boppers

Y2s can join Miss Grant every Thursday lunch time to bop along with your recorder to some tunes and learn some of the skills needed to play a tuned instrument. We will learn some songs and play some games to further develop our musical talent!

Class 4's Cross Curricular Music Poems

Mr Osborn gave Class 5 the choice of what to write their haikus about and they of course chose music! Have a read of a few of them pictured below - well done Class 4!

Class 2 - Heartwood - The Lost Words Spell Songs

Here at Baslow St Anne's we love to perform to each other so Class 2 gave Class 3 a treat by performing a wonderful song they had been practising in class called Heartwood. They sing it so beautifully and Class 3 loved the body percussion and actions!

Class 3 Christmas Service Performance

Class 3 had a great time in their music lessons learning Carol of the Bells in preparation for our annual Christmas Service. Half of the class played our brand new glockenspiels whilst the other half played the hand bells. Here's a little recording of our practice - as you can imagine it's very hard to keep two parts going at the same time!

Children from Y4-Y6 had a wonderful day of choral tuition at S. Anselm's with a specialist vocal coach. They had to audition in front of Miss Grant and she chose 11 beautiful singers. The children all had a fantastic time singing with other children, learning new songs and singing with a live accompaniment.
